IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), also known as a Photofacial, is one of the most exciting dermatology technologies available in today’s aesthetic environment in Dallas. IPL Photofacial is used to correct a wide variety of skin conditions and facial imperfections, particularly the signs of aging in our Dallas dermatology patients. This patented dermatolgy technology pulses broad spectrum light, IPL, to treat the skin and greatly improve signs of aging. This intense pulsed light technology (IPL), or photofacial, improves age spots, freckles, acne, broken capillaries, blushing, flushing, and signs of rosacea. Within a few photofacial treatments at our Dallas office, you will see smoother and firmer skin with a decrease in pigmentation and redness. There are various IPL filters with different wavelengths for different indications, such as acne, rosacea, vascular lesions or veins, and age spots. It is important that "age spots" are evaluated in order to determine if they are not pigmented lesions that a dermatologist would need to biopsy.
IPL is a very tolerable treatment. Dallas IPL photofacial Patients describe a feeling of warmth to slight pin pricks depending on one's sensitivity level.
After a thorough skin evaluation and photography by our IPL photofacial dermatologist in Dallas, we will decide on the number of IPL treatments each photofacial patient needs. IPL photofacial patients in Dallas typically have a series of 3-6 IPL treatments. If redness or rosacea is the main indication, each photofacial patient typically will need MORE IPL treatments and even maintenance treatments at our Dallas dermatology office.
Unfortunately yes. Due to incorrect settings, many IPL patients come to our Dallas dermatologist for treatment of IPL burns, otherwise known as PhotoBurns. Typically this IPL side effect occurs in darker skin photofacial patients. It is very important if you suffer an IPL burn to be seen as soon as possible by Dr. Kassir to begin the recovery process. For further information about IPL, see Dr. Kassir's bps chapter on LASER COMPLICATIONS.
Depending on skin type, Dallas patients who undergo IPL photofacial treatments may have slight redness for a short period of time following the IPL procedure. The best IPL Dallas photofacial patients can resume their normal day, but need to avoid sun exposure for several days after the IPL treatment and it is highly recommended to wear sunscreen daily for at least 2 weeks after IPL treatment.
