Laser tattoo removal is a procedure done in our office with a variety of wavelengths for the most effective treatment. Laser tattoo removal works by directing certain wavelengths of light to disintegrate the ink in the tattoo without damaging the surrounding skin. These laser beams break up ink particles into tiny fragments which are later cleared up by the body’s scavenging cells. Certain wavelengths of light are selectively absorbed by specific corresponding colors of the tattoo ink. The color of the tattoo fades naturally over the next few weeks.
Lasers remove tattoos by releasing short pulses of intense light that are absorbed by the tattoo pigment in the skin. Laser light energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into particles which are then removed by the body’s own immune system. The laser light selectively targets the pigment of the tattoo while at the same time not causing damage to the surrounding skin. The laser used at Kassir Dermatology removes a variety of tattoo pigments including black and red.

During your laser treatment, there may be some minor discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a series of rubber bands snapping on to the skin. We can often reduce or eliminate the discomfort by cooling the treated area with an air-cooling device.
Multiple treatments are often needed to achieve the desired results for the tattoo removal and usually require a minimum of 5-8 treatments for our Dallas patients. The number of treatments will vary depending on the depth, color, and age of the tattoo. We recommend 4-8 weeks between treatments.
After your tattoo removal treatment, the area will be covered with an antibiotic ointment and a bandage is applied. After healing, the tattoo will fade with time. Dr. Kassir and his staff will provide you with post treatment instructions. You will also be given a list of pretreatment instructions to carefully follow prior to your next treatment session.
Yes, the lasers used in tattoo removal in our clinic are very powerful and safe for all of our patients in Dallas.
Some minor crusting and/or blistering occurs for several days after treatment for our Dallas patients. Scarring with laser tattoo removal is rare. Other possible side effects include but are not limited to whitening or darkening of the skin. Patients with darker skin are at higher risk for these side effects.
Colors such as green, white yellow and aqua inks are the most difficult for any laser to treat and may not be completely removable. Most effective colors for removal are black, blue and red ink pigments. Older tattoos respond faster to laser tattoo removal than recent tattoos. Some tattoos will completely disappear after several sessions and other tattoos may not fade entirely. During your initial consultation, Dr. Kassir will advise you on potential ink clearance and what your realistic expectations should be.
